How Do You Begin Your Day?
What might change if your first response each morning was not to reach for your phone, but to reach for His presence?
How do you begin your day? Do you wake up already thinking about everything that needs your attention before the day begins?
Maybe you reach for your phone, mentally organize your to-do list, or begin carrying the weight of the day before your feet even touch the floor.
What if the first voice we intentionally listened to each morning was the Lord’s?
Before the demands of the day crowded in, Jesus chose to spend time alone with the Father.
“In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place where He prayed.” Mark 1:35 (NIV)
Jesus never viewed prayer as an interruption to His ministry. He viewed it as essential to it.
Throughout the Gospels, we see Him intentionally withdrawing to spend time alone with the Father. After those quiet moments of communion, He returned strengthened, focused, and prepared to continue the work He had been sent to do.
If the Son of God made space for silence and solitude with the Father, how much more do we need to do the same?
Our world celebrates productivity. It tells us to answer every notification, meet every expectation, and carry every responsibility. Yet the invitation of Jesus is different. Before we pour ourselves out, He calls us to come and be filled.
Prayer is not another task to check off our list. It is an intentional and essential part of growing our relationship with the Lord. We were never meant to serve Him apart from abiding in Him.
Whatever is urgently asking for your attention can wait while you spend time in the presence of the Lord. The emails will still be there. The laundry can wait. The to-do list will remain.
The One who loves you is inviting you to sit with Him before you carry everything else.
I want to begin each day in His presence and then go about doing whatever He asks of me. As He restores and renews me, those He calls me to serve will benefit from the overflow of a life that has first been with Him.
Loving Father, thank You for inviting me into Your presence. Forgive me for the times I have rushed into my day without first sitting with You. Teach me to value communion with You above productivity. Restore my heart, renew my mind, and fill me with Your Spirit so that whatever I do today flows from Your love and not my own strength. Let my life be an overflow of time spent with You. Speak, Lord. Your servant is listening.
Dear heart, I don’t want to do anything without Him. In fact, I don’t even want to try. May we become believers who serve from overflow instead of exhaustion, who minister from intimacy instead of obligation, and who choose His presence before our performance.
Thank you for joining me in this corner of the internet. This is the quiet place where our hearts are restored, our perspective is renewed, and our souls remember whose we are.
I would love to know how will you begin your day tomorrow. What can you set aside so you can intentionally meet with the Lord before anything else asks for your attention?

I must admit that lately, I’ve been waking up jumping right into emails. It was a false feeling of control through uncertainty that ultimately began to wear me out. When my health began to ring the alarm, I knew I was out of order and starting (again) today, I’ll be seeking His voice in the morning even more.
I will begin my day thanking God for how he loves and cares for my sister. He will fill you with His Spirit so that whatever you do today flows from His love and not your own strength. I love you!
