Faith That Amazes Jesus
Learning to Trust the God Who Speaks
Luke 7 offers us a breathtaking glimpse into the kind of faith that moves the heart of God. In a chapter filled with need, sorrow, and divine compassion, one moment stands out with extraordinary clarity: the faith of the Roman centurion.
This man was an outsider to Israel, a figure of authority, and a representative of the Roman Empire but he approaches Jesus with a humility and confidence rarely seen. His servant is dying. The situation is urgent.
Yet the centurion doesn’t demand that Jesus come to his home. He doesn’t insist on seeing a miracle with his own eyes. He doesn’t require a sign. He doesn’t need physical proof. He simply says:
“But say the word, and my servant will be healed.” Luke 7:7 (CSB)
The centurion recognizes something many in Israel had missed.
Jesus’ authority is not bound by proximity.
His power is not limited by circumstance.
If Jesus is who He says He is, then His word is enough.
And Jesus responds with one of the most astonishing statements in the Gospels:
“I tell you, I have not found so great a faith even in Israel.” Luke 7:9 (CSB)
Imagine that! A Gentile soldier, an outsider, demonstrates a depth of trust that surpasses anything Jesus has seen among God’s own covenant people.
Faith so clear, so trusting, so anchored in who Jesus is, that it amazes the Son of God.
This is the kind of faith that doesn’t deny difficulty but refuses to let difficulty define God.
It is the kind of faith that looks at the impossible and remembers that nothing is impossible for Him.
It is the kind of faith that waits, not with dread, but with expectancy because it knows the character of the One who promised.
This is faith rooted in revelation. This is faith anchored in the authority of Jesus.
What Makes This Faith So Extraordinary?
His faith wasn’t wrapped in religious language. It is simple, confident, and deeply aware of who Jesus is.
I want the kind of faith that doesn’t deny reality but refuses to let reality define God.
The kind of faith that says, “Lord, I don’t need to see how You will do it. I just need to know that You said You would.”
So, if God has never failed you, and He hasn’t; if His track record is flawless, and it is; if His promises have stood for generations, and they have; Why is it so hard to take Him at His Word?
Loving Father, thank You for the reminder that Your Word is powerful, trustworthy, and true. Teach my heart to trust You like the centurion did; without hesitation, without fear, without needing proof. Where my faith is weak, strengthen it. Where doubt has crept in, silence it with Your truth. Where disappointment has settled, breathe hope again.
Help me to remember Your faithfulness, to rest in Your promises, and to wait with expectancy for what You have spoken. Give me ears to hear Your voice and a heart that believes You fully. Just say the word, Lord, and I will trust You.
Dear heart, what keeps you from believing Him now? He has proven His faithfulness again and again. What fear, what delay, what disappointment, what unanswered question stands between you and the simple trust that says, “Lord, just say the word”?
Thank you for joining me in this small corner of the internet where we know He has not lost His power or changed His mind. Pull up a chair and linger at the table He has prepared.
